When to use it

The X dismisses transient surfaces: modals, toasts, chips, banners. Top-right corner, a comfortably sized tap target, and never doing double duty as 'discard my unsaved work' without a confirm. Distinguish it from minus (remove from list) and trash (destroy). Naming is scattered: x-mark in Heroicons, close-line in Remix, xmark in Iconoir, plain x in Lucide, Tabler, Phosphor and Feather.
