When to use it

The pushpin means 'keep this fixed at the top' — a pinned message, a pinned tab, a pinned note. It is not a map pin: Heroicons and Feather only ship a map-pin here, which reads as a location, so if you need the 'stick to top' sense prefer Lucide, Tabler, Phosphor's push-pin, or Iconoir. Naming it 'pin' in a UI where you also have map pins invites confusion; label the action if both exist.

Reach for the pushpin when the user fixes an item so it stays visible or on top — pinned conversations, pinned columns, a note pinned to a board. It promises 'this will not scroll away or fall in the sort order until you unpin it'. Keep it clear of the location pin, which marks a place on a map, and of the bookmark, which saves for later reading rather than fixing in place.

  • Reaching for Map pin? Reach for the map pin when you mean a geographic location, not a fixed-to-top item.
  • Reaching for Bookmark? Reach for the ribbon when the user saves something to return to later rather than fixing it in place now.
