When to use it

Horizontal faders with draggable handles read as 'tune these values' — brightness, volume, price range, personal preferences. The set names scatter here: Lucide calls it sliders-horizontal, Heroicons and Tabler call it adjustments, Remix draws an equalizer. Watch the handle count and orientation across voices; some draw two rows, some three, which changes how 'busy' the glyph looks at 16px.

Reach for sliders when the user adjusts continuous or multi-value settings in place — filter ranges, audio levels, image tuning, feature toggles grouped as a panel. It promises hands-on control of values that live on a spectrum, which is exactly why it reads differently from the gear: sliders say 'your preferences', the gear says 'the system's configuration'. Use it for the affordance that opens a tray of adjustable controls.

  • Reaching for Settings? Reach for the gear for the app- or account-level configuration front door, not for a panel of adjustable values.
  • Reaching for Filter? Reach for the funnel when the control narrows a list down rather than tuning values along a range.
