When to use it

The IEC power symbol — a circle broken by a vertical line — means on/off or shut down. Iconoir doesn't ship a plain one here, so it's absent; Remix names it shut-down-line. It's a hardware-grade metaphor, so reserve it for genuinely powering something on or off (a device, a session, a service), not for closing a dialog or ending a lightweight action.

Reach for power when the action turns something on or off at a system level — shut down, restart, enable a device or integration, end a running session. The standby glyph carries real 'this stops the machine' weight, which is why it should not stand in for closing a modal or dismissing a card. For signing a user out of an account specifically, the log-out door reads more accurately than a power button.

  • Reaching for Log out? Reach for the door-and-arrow when the user leaves their account, not when hardware or a service powers down.
  • Reaching for Close? Reach for the X to dismiss a dialog or panel rather than to power something off.
