When to use it

Cut, in both senses: the clipboard operation and literal trimming in video or image editors. In text UIs it is nearly extinct — cut/copy/paste toolbars gave way to keyboard shortcuts — so its strongest modern use is media editing and 'split here' moments in timelines.
