When to use it

The closed padlock signals security and privacy: password fields, private content, encrypted connections. Its meaning flips with state — closed is safe, open is exposed — so never use the open padlock decoratively. Heroicons is explicit about which is which (lock-closed vs lock-open); the others treat closed as the default drawing.
